Private Health Insurance
First and foremost, anyone coming on Aliya is obliged by law to take
out membership at one of the Kupot Cholim (Health Services) in Israel.
The monthly premiums rise with age. Each Oleh can and must join the
Kupat Cholim of their choice immediately upon arrival in Israel.
The service provided by the Kupot Cholim is according to the guidelines
prescribed by the Government "Basket", which is pretty comprehensive
within the confines not too dissimilar to other National Health services
around the world.
There are however certain limitations to the Kupot Cholim, and many
people choose to supplement the basic health cover with a private health
plan.
There are many advantages in taking out supplementary plans. Some of
the advantages include:
- Operations which are elective as opposed to emergency.
- Transplants.
- The ability to choose medicines which are not in the Health Basket.
- Operations which to date have not been performed in Israel.
- Choice of surgeon and hospital.
- The ability to have your treatment overseas.
There is a waiting period of between 3 and 6 months from the time the
first premium is paid until the plan kicks in.
There are many different types of private health plans available, so
that each person can tailor make the plan that best suits their own
needs.
Goldfus Insurance and Investments takes no responsibility for changes
in Israeli legislation that may alter the accuracy of the above information.
